Death of Peter Lyman[edit]

Let me offer my condolences if you were a friend or associate of Dr. Lyman. When adding a notice that a subject of a WP biography has died, it is our practice to give a reference to a public announcement when possible, so that others know you are not playing a cruel joke. That kind of vandalism is, unfortunately, too common. Therefore, I added a reference to http://www.ischool.berkeley.edu/about/news/topstories/lyman07022007 to the article. — Carl (CBM · talk) 14:42, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Guzdial-barefaced.jpg[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Guzdial-barefaced.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 16:34, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DYK[edit]

Updated DYK query On 24 November, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Mark Guzdial, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Mark Guzdial, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Copyright problems with Jennifer Tour Chayes[edit]

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Jennifer Tour Chayes, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/jchayes/. As a copyright violation, Jennifer Tour Chayes appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Jennifer Tour Chayes has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Jennifer Tour Chayes and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Jennifer Tour Chayes with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Jennifer Tour Chayes.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please note that even if the copyright issue were resolved, the promotional tone of a company or personal website may well be unsuitable for an encyclopedia article, which requires a neutral point of view. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 16:24, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the speedy-deletion tag I put on this article, as on a more detailed look I see it is only the paragraph I happened to check that is directly the same as the Microsoft site I cited. Sorry about that - copyright is a continual worry, because people don't read the statements on every edit screen: "Do not copy text from other websites without a GFDL-compatible license. It will be deleted." and "You irrevocably agree to release your contributions under the GFDL" and keep copying things in from other websites. Perhaps you can reword that paragraph a little so that it is not a direct quote. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 16:34, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Ashwin_small.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Ashwin_small.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:20, 23 June 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 08:20, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for October 9[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Daniel E. Atkins III, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Dean, Michigan Theater and Carnegie Foundation (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 11:55, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Yardi. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Jeffrey MacKie-Mason, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Jeffrey MacKie-Mason to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

If you don't understand this message, you can leave a note on my talk page.

Thanks, Rivalnator (talk) 19:44, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
