Colleges

Why is Chabot College and CSU East Bay listed as colleges in Union City? Both are in Hayward, not UC. There aren't any colleges in UC. ~ Sstrieu (talk) 03:06, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

I think that the community college should be listed under education, since UC is (I assume) in that district, but it should not mislead readers.--Hjal (talk) 03:18, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
If both are listed in this page, then doesn't that make Ohlone College on the list? It still doesn't make any sense, there are NO colleges in Union City. This page is about Union City, nothing else.Mang0es (talk) 03:59, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Article Rating

I wouldn't even give this article a C-class rating. There are lots of grammar issues and its more like a directory due to all the lists. See WP:NOTDIR and WP:NOTLINK.Killiondude (talk) 07:36, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

This article is quite a mess. Hence I added the "this article has multiple issues" tag just to let readers know that it's a mess. I might not have even included all this issues this article has. Michael Patrick (talk) 20:17, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Copyright violations

Removed as many of the copyright violations as could be detected which constituted over half the article on this date. From the style I suspect it's an anon with a certain fondness for the James Logan High School article. They came from multiple sources with clear (C) notices with no assertion of reuse permission. – Zedla (talk) 01:42, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Demographics

Im pretty sure Union City isnt 30% white, maybe someone could write up a more recently accurate demographics section —Preceding unsigned comment added by S1l3nts4nt4 (talkcontribs) 01:17, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

The most recent demographics available are from the 2000 United States Census. (Numbers from the 2010 census have not yet been compiled). According to the [Union City data and the census data, the current numbers in the article appear to be accurate. CactusWriter (talk) 02:14, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Zola.svc (talk) 02:38, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, but we do not add redlinks to the "Notable residents" sections. The relevant guideline can be seen at WP:LISTPEOPLE. If you create biography articles for these people. and the article survives deletion, then the people can be added. Binksternet (talk) 03:15, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

The population was 75,054 can you make the change from 71,089 figure here the proof[1] Justformike (talk) 18:54, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Not done. The California Department of Finance estimated the population as 71,396 at the beginning of 2013, and as 72,155 at the beginning of 2014.[3] I doubt that Union City's own website is more accurate or less biased than CA DOF. The 75k figure is not reliable. Binksternet (talk) 19:58, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Local shopping section some changes need to be made as long Uc resident. Safeway which sits behind opened in the 1990s. There was a pre existing shopping center (more like a mall because there were also stores inside) which also had a Safeway but it was situated behind the McDonalds. Back then, there was a Kelley Moore store where the current Safeway is. That KM was more like a hardware store. It closed sometime in the mid 70s and I believed it stayed vacant until they tore entire "mall" to make way for the current shopping center.

Public transit In 1974, the City of Union City was lacking in public transportation. The City was not part of the AC Transit District, and had voted not to be in the District. In January, 1974, the idea of the City having it's own transit system was brought before the Council. Work was done by the Transportation Commission, a group appointed by the City Council. The system ran with three 19-passenger Mercedes-Benz buses over three different routes. There were no bus stops. Passengers had to flag down the approaching bus, or tell the bus driver where they needed to get off. The system ran from all three buses.Source:unioncity.patch.com/groups/timothy-swensons-blog/p/union-city-flea — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vernonwallace (talkcontribs)

http://www.ci.union-city.ca.us .At just over 73,000 citizens, Union City has been described as an oasis from the hustle and bustle of its big city neighbors, yet pulsing with life. There is no shortage of things to do. Bigboy9000 (talk) 19:03, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

The California Department of Finance estimated the city's population as 72,155 at the beginning of 2014.[4] I don't think we should use Union City's own numbers since they are likely to be self-promotional. Binksternet (talk) 21:04, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Binksternetself-promotional signs are not put by Caltrans that what sign read if you planned visited the city .That all im saying it fine if we go with state numbers thought. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bigboy9000 (talkcontribs) 22:26, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Omit "Union City has a small-town atmosphere ." in the "Geography" portion of the article due to the subjective nature of the statement and its lack of a reliable source. This reflects an opinion and not a fact. 173.197.163.138 (talk) 18:40, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Edit "Union City is a suburb in the San Francisco Bay Area in Alameda County, California, United States approximately 30 miles from San Francisco and 20 miles north of San Jose" to "Union City is a city in the..." By definition Union City is a city, considering its economy and history background detailed within the article itself. Quote: "Incorporated on January 13, 1959, Union City is a general law city with a city council/city manager form of government." Source: http://www.ci.union-city.ca.us/about-us/facts-and-figures. 173.197.163.138 (talk) 19:54, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

  •  Not done. Certainly the source is correct in that the city is a general law city, etc., but the larger picture is that San Jose, San Francisco and even Oakland are nearby cities where there are lots of jobs. By comparison, Union City has few jobs, and has a bedroom community status within the Bay Area. The existing wording gives the proper context. Binksternet (talk) 23:49, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
