I was wondering if anyone else has any interest at all in these books. Personally think the first two are awesome. (those are the only two I've gotten a chance to read) I think Destiny is better than Solomons Jar though. To me it seems much more real.

I read several of these, as I have an intereset in archealogical adventure. But after awhile, the series lost my interest. Being able to pull a sword out of thin air is interesting, but Annja's seeming imperviousness to a hailstorm of bullets, and other Superman-like qualities, quenched my interest. And, although there typically is a chase through several countries in most of the books, very little time was spent on the archealogical side -- it's more of an action series. The archealogical side just serves as an impetus for more chase / fight scenes.
The series also lags because nothing can be done to the characters. Roux, Annja, and Garin must keep their relationships what they were established to be at the end of the first book, so that, as long as the reader becomes familiar with the mythology laid down in the first book, any of the books can be read in any order. This prevents Annja from creating any lasting friendships / love relationships with any other characters introduced in any of the books, as she will not see any of the side characters return in any subsequent books.
Granted, the first book was compelling. The novels are quick escapist reads, but don't look for depth here. You won't find it. Some of the later books are good escapist reading, but I haven't found anything very memorable to recommend any of the later books over any of the others. OK so the books are not the height of literature. But the article, as it stands, tells most people the basics of the series. What more is wanted? No, it is not one of wikipedia's finest articles, But it is good enough.

Target Audience?[edit]

Is it worth mentioning the target audience? Seems aimed at young women rather than general fantasy readers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.208.165.97 (talk) 11:15, 16 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
