Talk:Bradley C. Edwards

A major figure. Strong notability.

The subject is a giant in the Space Elevator world. He was the mover and shaker in the early oughts. He's the man who caused everyone to "stop laughing" (referring to a quote from Clarke) and get to work doing the serious engineering. Extremely notable. Think "Goddard".

The article doesn't yet convey that notability, which has caused some to (reasonably) think it's a deletable puff piece. I labeled it a "stub" to hopefully give a little clue that the article is incomplete and requires some expansion. Hopefully pretty quickly someone will introduce some material that makes the notability a little more obvious.

I'm not convinced it's a stub. Apart from his work on the space elevator, which is covered elsewhere, there doesn't seem to be anything else to say. This is a full-length article. But if you feel otherwise why don't you do some research (like I did) and fill in the missing pieces? andy (talk) 19:44, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Well, it looks like my stub-marking skills are lacking anyway. It had actually already been marked as a stub for some time. I've removed my redundant marking.
And, yes. The article is in a sorry state. It doesn't support notability of the subject well for those who aren't already familiar with the subject. But, that calls first for a traditional, stable, discussion on the talk page, and for improvement as we all have time for it. It does not call for a blitzkrieg summary deletion that locks out all efforts to fix the problem first before dragging it to the chopping block. Skyway (talk) 05:42, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Debate notability and other whatnot HERE first

It would have been preferable, and more traditional, if the whole debate about whether the subject is notable had been started on this talk page instead of by that "tactical" move first to WP:PROD then to AFD after WP:PROD failed. I will be suggesting a halt to that process, which is completely invalid in my opinion. Until today there had been no discussion of the matter whatsoever on the talk page, there hadn't even been anything on the talk page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Skyway (talk • contribs) 05:44, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

• That's not how it works. The prod notice is the kick-off point for people to fix it. If someone removes the prod but doesn't bother to fix the problem it's usual to go to AfD. Plenty of time to fix it and call off the debate. The Talk page is rarely used for these purposes. andy (talk) 10:33, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
  • That is not a correct representation of the facts, i asked Andy after the prod to discuss it on Talk:Space_elevator first before proceding, he ignored that and also didn't notify me of this AFD, in my opinion Andy used PROD on this article to evade discussion with the people on space elevator, something PROD isn't ment for, if it was ment as a kick-off point for people to fix it Andy would have placed a notice on the talk page of space elevator Mion (talk) 22:04, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

removal of references and titles coz they are also named on refs

For Andy The removal of " NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts The Space Elevator Phase I [1] and on 1 Mar 2003 NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts The Space Elevator Phase II" because they are named in the refs is nonsense, we first name something and add the ref to support that, next to that the majority of our readers never read the refs, so to keep the information available to the readers we have to include it in the article itself. As for naming the newspapers in the article, thats common on Wikipedia as on Joseph J. Romm, as you whole point is that he was not in the main newspapers, the links say otherwise. I'll set the article back to its former state.
