Submission declined on 29 April 2024 by ToadetteEdit (talk). This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.

Thoth Open Metadata (for suggested spelling, see Thoth) is a platform for managing and distributing open-source metadata, initially developed as part of the Community-led Open Publication Infrastructures for Monographs (COPIM) project, a community-led initiative. In 2022, Thoth was registered as a nonprofit Community Interest Company in the UK [1].
Thoth Open Metadata platform is designed to meet the specific needs of university publishers and small to medium-sized publishers that release works in open access. Its development is based on open-source principles, with the code made publicly available and data accessible through open APIs. The metadata generated are made available under the CC0 license, allowing free and unrestricted use.
Thoth's objectives include:
- Facilitating adherence to good metadata management practices for open access publishers, especially those struggling to meet the specifications of different distribution platforms.
- Promoting the inclusion of open access books in book supply chains dominated by restricted publications.
- Making metadata available in various formats, such as MARC21 and MARC21XML, KBART, ONIX for Books, JSON, following industry standards.
Thoth operates on a non-profit model, offering its platform and API services for free to publishers, with the possibility of voluntary financial contributions through the Open Book Collective [2]. Additionally, it offers paid metadata management services through the Thoth Plus programme [3].
Partnerships and collaborations[edit]
Thoth collaborates with various open access infrastructure organisations, such as Crossref [4], the OPERAS network [5], the OAPEN Foundation, and the DOAB Trusted Partner Network [6], among others.
It participates in the Open Book Futures project [7] and works with entities like the Public Knowledge Project, COKI, and SciELO Books to enhance the integration of metadata for open access books.
Thoth Archiving Network[edit]
Recently launched as part of the COPIM project [8], this network aims to address preservation issues faced by small academic publishers. It includes initiatives to enable publishers to archive their publications in repositories such as the Internet Archive, Zenodo, DSpace, and Figshare [8], aiming to improve the preservation of important academic contributions.
