I was previously ignorant of Wikipedia's policies before contributing to Merlin's page. Yes, Wikipedia policies can be very overwhelming for new editors! I have copied over your COI disclosure to the talk page for Merlin Tuttle for transparency, and I appreciate your honesty (as will all Wikipedians). You've done a pretty good job so far, though I haven't done more than glance over the article. Something that is really important to Wikipedia is what we call verifiability. We show that information is verifiable by adding citations to what we call reliable sources. Reliable sources are things like books, newspaper articles, scientific journals, respectable websites, etc. and not things like personal correspondence/emails or blogs.

In general, for each piece of information, Wikipedians want to see the reliable source that is associated with that information. If you state someone's date of birth or place of birth, there should be a citation to the source that shows the information is verifiable. Otherwise, it could be removed. Making sure content is all verifiable is especially important for what we call biographies of living people.

The image you uploaded here could possibly get deleted, by the way. It is published under copyright and there is not sufficient evidence that you are the owner of the photograph, and thus, the one who may release it for use on Wikipedia. If you do, in fact, own the rights to the photograph (you took it), you can follow the directions here about proving you own the rights. In general, photographs have to be released to Wikipedia by the person who took the photograph. If you would like to use this photograph, you can contact the photographer and ask them to upload it to Wikimedia Commons and release the rights.

I enjoyed the update to Merlin's page! I worked to partially overhaul his page last year, and it's awesome to see that the article has continued to grow! Anyway, just wanted to drop a note. Gammage Hats[edit]

Very cool article! Very cool subject. It looks like there are images of the hats that are public domain, but I'm not sure if they're Gammage hats or inspired by Gammage hats. Can you take a look? Michael J Ryan[edit]

Hi :) Can you please help me understand the purpose of the long list of publications under the heading 'References' in the Michael J Ryan (biologist) article? They're not used as references (footnote citations etc.) within the article. I assumed first that they are intended as a list of the person's works, but there is already an earlier section titled 'Bibliography', so perhaps I assumed incorrectly?
