Broadcast and reception[edit]

Anita Gates wrote in The New York Times in 2001 that while I Love Lucy was humorous Lucy herself did not serve as a positive female role model in the series. gates specifically discusses this episode and the manner in which Ricky addresses Lucy after she overdrafts her checking account. Gates notes that Lucy taught many young girls about marriage and gender roles while portraying a character showing women as "frivolous, inept little fools".[2]
