Tamara Ralph (born 29 November 1981) is an Australian fashion designer who is the former Creative Director and co-founder of Ralph & Russo.[1]

Tamara Ralph, a prominent figure in the fashion industry, is recognized as the founder of the luxury label "Tamara Ralph". Her commitment to exquisite craftsmanship and timeless elegance has positioned her as a leader in haute couture.[2][3][4][5]

Early life and education[edit]

Ralph was born on 29 November 1981 in the Sutherland Shire[6] and is the fourth generation in her family to work in couture and fashion design.[7] After graduating from the Whitehouse Institute of Design in Melbourne, Australia, Ralph moved to London in hopes of breaking into the fashion industry.[8]

Career[edit]

In 2010, she founded a fashion house, Ralph & Russo with Michael Russo in Mayfair, London.[9] The fashion house focused on the city's rich history of couture fashion houses.[10] As a creative director, Ralph has designed high end clothing and accessories for celebrities including, Beyoncé,[11] Rihanna,[12] Angelina Jolie,[13] Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Bella Hadid,[14] and others.[15] Ralph extended her craftsmanship and savoir faire to architecture by designing the bespoke interior of Ralph & Russo boutiques.[16]

Ralph collaborated with several other labels including Audemars Piguet,[17][18] Disney,[19] Linda Farrow,[20] and others on different occasions. She has also designed Meghan Markle’s engagement dress for her marriage to Prince Harry.[21]

She became the first female Creative Director from the UK in nearly 100 years deemed eligible to show during Paris Haute Couture week.[22] She has been recognised by Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar for her achievements, together with her inclusion into fashion publications such as Fortune magazine's 40 under 40 list, the BOF 500 [23][24][25][26] and in 2016 was awarded the "Outstanding Achievement Award" at the Walpole British Luxury Awards.[27][28] She often appears at charity events and helped with 2019–20 Australian bushfire charity event[29] and ‘To India, With Love’.[29]

In May 2021, Ralph left Ralph & Russo and announced that she will be starting her own brand.[1]

Tamara Ralph, leveraging her expertise from Ralph & Russo, launched her eponymous brand, Tamara Ralph, marking a significant milestone in luxury fashion. Her debut couture collection in Paris garnered widespread acclaim for its exquisite craftsmanship and innovative designs. Subsequent collections, including the Spring/Summer 2024 Couture, further solidify her reputation for creating breathtaking, avant-garde pieces that redefine couture aesthetics.[30][31][32][33][34]

Audemars Piguet collaborated with fashion designer Tamara Ralph to unveil the Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon Limited Edition at the Spring/Summer 2024 Fashion Week. Crafted from 18-carat pink gold, the watch embodies Ralph's signature style with its stunning color palette.[35][36][37][38][39][40][41]

Celebrities like Eva Longoria, Jessica Alba, Demi Moore, Kate Hudson, Halle Berry have graced red carpets in Tamara Ralph dresses, epitomizing the label's blend of sophistication and glamour, garnering widespread admiration and attention.[42][43][44][45][46][47][48]

Personal life[edit]

Ralph was previously in a relationship with her business partner Michael Russo.[49][50] Since 2020, Ralph has been in a relationship with British-Indian businessman Bhanu Choudhrie. They have one child together, who was born in 2021.[51]
