Nursery rhyme/literary/television references cleanup[edit]

This list doesn't seem very encyclopedic. It needs to be shortened to siginificant examples and converted to prose. As it is it's a random list of nursery rhymes and characters without any description of how they are connected to the novel. Chardir 15:24, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{spoiler}} Set in an alternate version of Reading, Berkshire, England, in which nursery characters work and live, the novel follows Detective Inspector Jack Spratt, head of the Nursery Crime Division, currently dealing with the disastrous prosecution and acquittal of the three little pigs and deep budget cuts. Jack faces the very real possibility that his department may be disbanded if he cannot show good results on his next case: Humpty Dumpty has been found dead, and Jack and his new partner Mary Mary have been asked to investigate the case.

Theme[edit]

The article currently says, "The overriding theme is that nursery rhymes and fairy stories are based upon real people who are living relatively normal lives in the present." What with all the metafiction, it's hard to say. I think at the moment we'd best treat TBOE as a novel in its own right, and not as a novel within the world of Thursday Next. If we start pulling at that thread, whole worlds will come undone. Branfish 14:51, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Book Cover[edit]
