"In the Water Margin, Song Jiang is a native of Shandong, and a judge. He is known as the Timely Rain, or the Welcome Rain, depending on which translation one prfers (及時雨), and is responsible for the release from execution of Lin Chong, who was unjustly trapped by the uber-villain of the tale, Gao Qiu."
Unless this story belongs to a version of the novel that I haven't seen, this is incorrect. The name of the man who mitigated Lin Chong's sentence of death penalty was Sun, a wholly different charater from Song Jiang.

I deleted the phrase about how Song Jiang was reluctant to be part of the bandits because he was a "Song in the Song dynasty". This has no basis because the ruling family of the Song dynasty was from the Zhao family, not the Song family so Song Jiang had no actual relation to the royal family.
