References to the Mary Tyler Moore Show on Lou Grant[edit]
There was in fact at least one: at one point the staff are worried that management may be mulling deep personnel changes, and Grant points out that sort of thing is typical of news jobs. He says words to the effect that "I once worked at a TV station where the owner just up and fired every one of us one day." This is how MTM ended, and the reason why Grant sought work at the Trib.
