A reference is needed for the statement that she lost in the recent election. I haven't heard any news. Exploding Boy 14:56, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Big Update[edit]

Sorry, I'm not used to editing Wikipedia but I just wanted to let users know that she won her election on May 23rd, 2013, to become the first openly gay member of the Japanese National Diet. This is listed in the Japanese version of her wikipedia page as such:

"2013年5月23日、参議院議員に繰り上げ当選となり、日本で初めて同性愛者であることを公表した国会議員となった。参議院での所属委員会は文教科学委員会、沖縄及び北方問題に関する特別委員会。"

The reference is here, also in Japanese: </ref>http://www.jiji.com/jc/zc?k=201305/2013052200662</ref>

Can someone edit this in the proper wiki format? Thank you.
