Dam[edit]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the dam is named after the village of Gabčíkovo, not after Gabčík. -- Sandius 22:22, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The village is named after Jozef Gabčík. I do not know if the dam is named after village or after Jozef Gabčík directly, but in both cases comes the name from Jozef Gabčík. --Maros 14:38, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rank[edit]

Regarding this quote: "Gabčík was a Slovak paratrooper of a rotmistr (rittmeister) rank." I'd just like to comment that though "literally" correct (by direct translation), this is however not factually correct. Rotmistr is actually better translated with the German rank of Rottenführer or basically a Corporal. So unless someone has a different idea, I feel this should be changed. Kubis[edit]

with reference to the statement that Kubis and Gabcik committed suicide rather than being taken alive, this is factually incorrect. Jan Kubis, the leader of the mission was wounded during a gun battle in the church, he was taken into custody by the SS but died of his injuries before he could be questioned. It was a Film made in the 1970's called "Operation daybreak" that created the hollywood ending of Kubis and Gabcik taking their lives with their final two bullets. Although this film takes a few liberties with the truth, it's still worth a watch as it covers most of the points of what happened and I think everyone should be aware of the story of these very brave men. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gavinp1972 (talk • contribs) 22:36, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The "best sons and daughters of our people" in this sentence, should be edited to reflect global view instead of more personalized one.

"Hundreds of thousands of the best sons and daughters of our people have been arrested and tortured.
