City List?

There were several horror hosts all over the U.S.

In Philadelphia, there was Stella (portrayed by Karen Scioli) who was the host of "Saturday Night Dead" on KYW-TV3 in the 1980s.

I remember going to Boston in the 1970s and watching Marshall Efron (the same one who did "Marshall Efron's Illustrated, Simplified and Painless Sunday School") as a movie host, but I do not know if he could be classified as a horror host (I believe the movie was Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women).

Perhaps with a little detective work, a thorough city listing of horror hosts could be added to this article.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. [1] Your website, now defunct, clearly preceded the creation of this article. [2] The word choices—running the "gamut from kiddie fare to serious drama", "needing [someone] to introduce the shows, read commercials, station I.D.'s", "most stations [utilized] booth announcers"—and subject progression—Vampira to King Kong to Shock—seem to have been taken from your site. Criteria for inclusion

While I'm not opposed to notable hosts who don't have Wiki entries yet being represented in the list (Black Cat doesn't have one, yet is seminal to the page), this will open the criteria to abuse. Reluctantly I concur that if there's no entry, there's no inclusion. MartinSFSA (talk) 05:43, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

I've noted that recently a lot of names have been included and promptly removed, many of these are "Internet" Hosts and are not "Television" Hosts. This page seems to be dedicated to "Television" Hosts and should not include "Internet" Hosts. In the future someone should differentiate by changing the name of this article to "Television Horror Hosts" and creating another article called "Internet Horror Hosts", in the vein of the Internet celebrity page. Still looks like we're having problems with people adding hosts without their own entry. A simple solution would be to write an article instead of adding a name to a list. Also, as I've suggested before, someone could write an Internet Host article and include those hosts. I'm interested to see if anyone has any productive ideas or solutions. Horror hosts listed in the article

@Toddst1: Hello! You recently made a number of edits to this article, including this one, where you removed many horror hosts that were listed here and do not have their own Wikipedia articles. Your edit summary says, "rm entries failing WP:NLIST". I'm reading that guideline, and I don't think those entries failed it. "... the entries must have the same importance to the subject as would be required for the entry to be included in the text of the article according to Wikipedia policies and guidelines... " is part of what it says. It seems to me that those horror hosts are non-trivial, and that including them here adds value for our readers. And as you probably already know, the general notability guideline is about whether or not a subject should have its own Wikipedia article, not about the inclusion or mentioning of a subject within a broader article. Also, those horror hosts all had references -- some but not all of them third-party references -- that showed that they really exist. In conclusion, they should be restored to the article. So, I'm going to go ahead and restore them. Feel free to reply here, and I would also encourage other editors to comment on this. — Mudwater (Talk) 00:09, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

@Mudwater: Most lists only include those entries that have blue links. WP:CSC's first tenant says "Every entry meets the notability criteria for its own non-redirect article in the English Wikipedia."

@Toddst1: At WP:CSC it says, "Lists are commonly written to satisfy one of the following sets of criteria". You mentioned the first one, "Every entry meets the notability criteria for its own non-redirect article in the English Wikipedia." But the second one is that "Every entry in the list fails the notability criteria". There are a huge number of lists on Wikipedia. Some only include notable entries, others include non-notable ones. — Mudwater (Talk) 11:14, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
@Toddst1: "P.S." About using IMDb as a reference, I think it's acceptable in this context. WP:IMDBREF is in the section about "Questionable and self-published sources". The main point of that section is that "Questionable sources are generally unsuitable for citing contentious claims about third parties..." So, they shouldn't be used to reference statements about controversial topics. Here the point of the references are just to show that the actual horror host exists. Like with any list, we don't want someone to come along and add a made-up entry a a joke. Since IMDb has user-generated content, it's not ideal even for that modest purpose, but for this article I think it's preferable to keep those references. (Most movie articles have a link to IMDb in the External Links section, so it can't be all bad.) — Mudwater (Talk) 11:37, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
IMDB is never an acceptable source as it is WP:USERG, hence its status on WP:RSP. It's ok to link to it as an EL, but not a source.Toddst1 (talk) 15:14, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

What do other editors think? Include horror hosts who don't have their own Wikipedia articles, but with footnotes to verify their existence, like this? Or only include horror hosts with their own articles, like this? — Mudwater (Talk) 17:05, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

@Toddst1: Another thing: Some of the entries you removed have more traditional third-party references. Surely those should be included in the article? Here is one example, but there are others:
