Census data for 1850 and 1860

El Paso was not included in the 1850 or 1860 Census, but the data on the page implies that it was. I think those years should either be removed or have it somehow indicated that those two are not census data. Aurora (User:Horkak) (talk) 01:29, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

El Paso, TexasEl PasoEl Paso redirects here already, and this city in Texas seems to be the primary topic for this name. It seems that someone tried to start a move request in 2014, but there wasn't much movement on the request. Natg 19 (talk) 07:28, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

Okay, sorry, I should have read the FAQs first. It seems like there was a consensus to keep only those cities in the AP style guide as "City" name, and the rest as City, State. I am okay with closing this RM as "Not Moved." Natg 19 (talk) 16:38, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Oppose. Our policy on article titles for U.S. cities is very clear. There is no reason to make an exception for this one case. Rreagan007 (talk) 16:42, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Oppose per Oldsanfelipe's argument. SportingFlyer talk 00:24, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Support. The AP style referred to above is a style for newspaper datelines. Datelines are mostly about branding. They let the reader know that this is an AP story, and that the AP sent a reporter to the dateline location who contributed to the story. It justifies their travel bills. People go to a news article based on the headline, which is typically written by a copy editor at the paper that runs the story. In short, it is a very different situation from an encyclopedia article title. The AP also has a dateline style for cities outside the U.S., but we don't follow that. "Other encyclopedias are among the sources that may be helpful in deciding what titles are in an encyclopedic register, as well as what names are most frequently used," per WP:COMMONNAME. • That would be an argument for an RfC to change WP:USPLACE. It's completely off topic here. Unless it is changed, USPLACE is the applicable guideline. John from Idegon (talk) 08:40, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
      • If USPLACE comes up for discussion, I would be in favor of ignoring the AP and using the comma convention for ALL US cities. That would be a lot simpler. Dicklyon (talk) 04:47, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Oppose per USPLACE. CookieMonster755 01:36, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Oppose – my home town, already primary, but chaos will ensue if we start getting away from WP:USPLACE. Dicklyon (talk) 04:45, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

Merger discussion

Request received to merge articles: Scenic Drive (El Paso) into El Paso, Texas; dated: August/2022. Proposer's Rationale: There is not much to say about Scenic Drive, and I believe what there is can be merged into this article. The article is referenced with insignificant local news. Discuss here.
