Something I found on Cricinfo[edit]

This article has a revealing anecdote from the man himself. When he was contacted by the Yorkshire Secretary on first being invited to play, it was "Dear Sir". When he was ill with TB, it was "Dear Bob". When he was released, it was "Dear Appleyard". Loganberry (Talk) 17:13, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bowling Style[edit]

From what Ive read his bowling style was unique, and should be built into its own section. Not since Sidney Barnes has there been a bowler who bowled spin at medium to medium fast pace, not only this but he had at the time a totally unique grip. In the book 100 Yorkshire Greats it states that Bob held the ball between middle and 3rd finger, spinning or cutting the ball with the middle finger when others spun the ball with index or 3rd fingers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Mercenary 73 (talkcontribs) 11:52, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
