Nina Angelovska (born 13 July 1988 in Skopje) is the former and first feamle Minister of Finance in North Macedonia. She is also a well-known entrepreneur. She co-founded and was heading the first deal platform and leading e-commerce company in Macedonia, Grouper.mk in 2011 that was recognized as the game-changer of Macedonian e-commerce. She made a successful exit when the Polish Group Asseco SEE acquired her company, Grouper.mk in 2021.

In 2017, Angelovska launched the Macedonian E-commerce Association aiming to contribute to removing the barriers for e-commerce development and accelerate its growth where she serves as President. She is also known for her advocacy for women in technology and entrepreneurship, taking actions aimed at promoting gender diversity and empowering women. In 2019 she became UNCTAD eTrade for Women Advocate. In 2022 she established the Gender Equality Alliance https://genderequalityalliance.org/en in the Workplace (GEA).

Angelovska is also a mentor, trainer and speaker at many domestic and international conferences.

Early life and career[edit]

Angelovska was educated in Skopje at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University where she obtained bachelor's and master's degrees in E-business at the Faculty of Economics.[1] Angelovska graduated as student of the year and was awarded Frank Manning for best student in the generation in economic sciences in 2010. Angelovska won a national contest for most innovative business plan and co-founded Grouper.mk in 2011, known as the first Macedonian deal platform and a leading Macedonian e-commerce company.[2][3] Angelovska obtained her doctorate degree in 2016 in Management at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University.[3]

Before joining the Government, Angelovska was heading Grouper.mk as a CEO and was also working as a consultant in digital economy, business development and e-commerce.[1] Grouper employed 20 people and had 200,000 customers in 2018.[3]

In 2016 Angelovska was recognized in 100 Female Founders in Europe, a list composed by the German startup magazine The Hundert. In 2018 she was named Forbes 30 Under 30 in E-commerce and Retail for Europe.[3] In 2019 UNCTAD recognized her as one of the seven global advocates for Women in eTrade. In 2023, Bloomberg Adria recognized her as one of the Top 50 People in the Adriatic region for 2022.[4]

On 24 September 2019 the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development announced seven "eTrade for Women Advocates" from the developing world. The others were Nazanin Daneshvar, Clarisse Iribagiza, Xiaofei Yao, Patricia Zoundi Yao, Claudia de Heredia and Helianti Hilman. It was announced on the periphery of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.[2]

In 2022 she joined Ananas E-commerce (part of Delta Holding) as Expansion Director, whose mission is to revolutionize e-commerce in the Balkans.

She was elected as a President of the recently founded Balkan E-commerce Alliance. [5].

Currently, she is also Asst. Prof. at the University of Skopje [6] and a Member of the Board of Makedonski Telekom.[7]

Political career[edit]

In August 2019 Angelovska was appointed Minister of Finance in North Macedonia.[2] She was appointed by the Prime Minister Zoran Zaev who had previously surprised critics by undertaking the finance role in addition to that of prime minister.[8]

Her 2020 budget for North Macedonia increased spending by 50% investing in human capital (health, education etc.) whilst planning to also cut the national debt in relation to GNP.[9] Angelovska headed the public finances during the COVID-19 outbreak and led the implementation of many economic and fiscal measures. She has put digitalization and technologies in focus as a key to solving many problems and accelerating the progress and reforms of North Macedonia. [10]
