David Nicholl (neurologist)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Nicholl is a neurologist, political activist, Liberal Democrats member, former labour member and online columnist from Belfast, Northern Ireland.[1] In March 2006 he initiated a letter in the medical journal The Lancet, signed by more than 250 medical experts, urging the United States to stop force-feeding at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base and close down the prison camp.[2]

Nicholl works as a neurologist at City Hospital Hospital & Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, which was investigated by Newsnight for being run by a "medical patriarchy" with a misogynistic attitude towards female members of staff https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-66065126.

In 2014, Nicholl signed a statement of support for Moazzam Begg, following Begg's arrest for allegations of supporting terrorism in the Syrian Civil War[3] in a case which subsequently collapsed.[4][5]

He stood for the Liberal Democrats in Bromsgrove at the 2019 general election. He came 3rd behind the winning conservative candidate and the labour candidate. During this period there were concerns raised nationally around the source of some liberal democrat funding https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/puberty-blocker-drug-firm-donated-cash-to-lib-dems-cf3x77nh3
