Summary[edit]
Description |
Pacific Electric train at north end of West Avenue, Los Angeles, 1915, near Lafayette Square, Los Angeles. Photo looking north shows difficulty in building a grade (level) crossing at the tracks because vision would be blocked for autoists by high ridges on the street sides, leading Traffic Engineer Howell to warn of a potential "worst death trap in Los Angeles." Trees at back are probably where the Queen Anne Recreation Center was later built. Signboard shows advertisement for the Hippodrome Theater in Downtown. |
