Clarisse Crémer, is a French sailor, she was  born on December 30, 1989, in Paris.  She has two brothers and two sisters.   She studied hard at school (Lycée sainte Geneviève) and competed in athletics and rugby. She did not grow up by the sea and first discovered sailing during her teenage years, participating in regattas such as the Trophy of the High Schools. However, it was during her time at HEC when she studied MSc in International business, Business Administration and Management  that her love for sailing truly blossomed, eventually becoming the president of the HEC Sailing Club.

After her studies she started her own company and co-founded ‘Kazaden’ with her brother but after a few years Clarisse decided to make sailing her full-time profession. Her professional sailing career truly began in 2015 when she settled in Brittany with Tanguy Le Turquais (now her husband) and it was then she decided to try solo offshore racing.

Her determination and talent quickly became evident: in 2017, she won the Mini-Fastnet and the Transgascogne races, before finishing second in the Mini Transat. Her communication campaigns at the time were sensational and Clarisse became one of the most famous French sailors. Subsequently, she climbed the ranks of the professional circuit, sailing in the Figaro class and later on the IMOCA Banque Populaire X.

Her participation in the 2020-2021 Vendée Globe marked a pivotal moment in her career. Despite this being her first round the world race, she finished impressively in 12th place, making history as the best female performer in the history of the race.  Her time to complete the race was 87 days, 2 hours and 24 minutes, this is a world record for a single-handed, non-stop, monohull circumnavigation by a woman.

Clarisse and her husband Tanguy le Turquais, also an accomplished sailor, shares her passion for the sea and ocean racing. Together, they welcomed a daughter - Mathilda in November 2022, adding a family dimension to their maritime adventures.

However, her journey has not been without obstacles. In 2023, following her maternity leave, she was sidelined from the Vendée Globe by her sponsor -  sparking controversy about the role of women in high-level sports following having a baby.

Despite the challenges she has faced in the media spotlight, Clarisse Crémer remains an emblematic figure in sailing, continuing her quest for excellence and equality in the world of navigation. Ahead of the 2024 Vendée Globe, that her husband is also doing, she is actively preparing for her participation, determined to push boundaries of equity and inspire a new generation of female sailors.

When she is not sailing, Clarisse loves to try to make the plants and vegetables grow in her garden, she loves to cook healthy food for her family and to be outside as much as possible in nature with her family.
